Coming soon (ish): Extra Condensed No.3

Extra Condensed Erik Spiekermann

Work on the new issue of Extra Condensed continues at a blistering pace: just six years on from starting, 15 of the 18 impressions have been made – 10 of the 12 pages finished – with just the covers to complete and the envelopes to print, it’s all taking shape very nicely. At long last.

Extra Condensed started life with issue 1 back in 2015, when really it was just a challenge to ourselves, a bit of a passion project to see what we could do and if anyone would be interested if we did. Fast forward 6 years and a slightly unplanned and overly long hiatus later, we’ve had a chance to rethink the paper, what it is, and what we want it to be. Mainly we wanted it to be better: better designed, better printed, better content.

So this time round we’ve made some changes: for the first time we’ve managed to convince, coerce and cajole some of the world’s biggest and best designers to contribute some cracking content, with brilliant articles by Erik Spiekermann, Simon Esterson, and Paul Barnes, along side an exclusive interview with the one and only Astrid Stavro; with all that greatness to fit in we’ve had to make the paper longer, up to 12 pages from the previous 8; and in another first, we’ve also produced a collectors edition, printed on beautiful 120gsm archival Southbank Smooth paper, which will be available in a very limited edition of just 15 copies.

The standard edition, as before, is printed on newsprint in a numbered edition of only 150 copies, folded, with its own protective envelope.

The standard issue this year will cost £18 and the collectors edition £35, both printed in black and Pantone 806 (fluro pink). Pre-orders will be available soon, sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know, or check back here in a few weeks.
